What is glaucoma?
Glaucoma is progressive damage to the optic nerve, most often linked to raised pressure inside the eye. Untreated, it causes an irreversible loss of the visual field.
It progresses for a long time without symptoms, which makes screening and monitoring essential. Treatment aims to preserve vision by lowering eye pressure.

Glaucoma cannot be cured but it can be controlled. Treatment aims to stabilise the disease by lowering eye pressure to preserve the field of vision.
Why is it called a silent disease?
Because glaucoma progresses for a long time without symptoms: central vision stays normal for years. Hence the importance of screening and regular monitoring.
What are the treatments?

How often is monitoring needed?
